Shopping Market Coconuts Exotic Travel Street Scenes Rajasthan India Series 2.
One of the joys of shopping in the crowded, chaotic bazaars and markets in India, is the wide variety of snacks and drinks available for thirsty and hungry shoppers. Practically every shopper takes a break or two, during the shopping ritual, to drink a cup of hot chai tea, aromatically flavoured with cardamom and ginger, and served with milk and a generous spoonful of sugar. Or, a glass of freshly crushed sugarcane juice, and its fascinating to watch the vendor turn the wheels of the machine to extract the juice form the tough long reeds of sugarcane. Or, the perennial favourite, drink a tender coconut! No glass needed here, hehe. Skilled hands use a sickle to chop off the top of the coconut fruit shell, and then a straw is inserted through the top, and off you drink! After enjoying the sweet, delicious water of the tender coconut, we then hand over the fruit to the vendor. Nothing needs to be said, its all understood. He then swiftly cuts the fruit into two halves. Using a cheek that he cuts off from the coconut shell, he expertly scoops out the white, tender flesh from the two halves of the fruit, and places it into one of the halves, and hands it over to you. All thats left for you to do, is eat that delicious tender flesh, using a cheek off the same coconut shell, in place of a spoon. No crockery or cutlery needed :0) .
This image is part of a series of street scenes in bazaars and market areas in various parts of Inida. These digital art images are created using source photographs that I shot at various shopping locations across India, and this specific scene is from the bustling Bapu Bazaar market in Jaipur, Rajasthan, India.
Rajasthan, the colorful and unique state of India, is one of the fantastic destinations that attract tourists from all over the world. And of course shopping here is a great activity enjoyed by every traveler in Rajasthan. The various cities here offer something for everyone, be it jewellery, pottery, leather items, paintings, textiles, stone items, wooden furniture and many more beautiful things with magnificent artistry & workmanship. These are simply irresistible. Rajasthan is truly a shoppers paradise that has been able to preserve its cultural and traditional art & craft forms which are unique and cannot really be found in any other place in India and other parts of world. Be it in the rural villages or urban city of this Indian state, all have something unique and exclusive on display for its shoppers.
Some of the main cities of Rajasthan for shopping include Jaipur, Bikaner, Jaisalmer, Jodhpur, Udaipur, Pushkar, Kota, Shekhawati and Barmer.
Shopping in Jaipur can be rewarding & lucrative if you are looking for something which has a rural flavour. Almost everything is available in Jaipur, right from jewellery to clothes to footwear. Some of the popular items of Jaipur are jewellery, gems and semi-precious stones, kundan work (setting precious stones in gold), minakari work (enamel work on gold), lacquered bangles, sanganeri prints, hand block-printed textiles, tie-dyed fabrics, traditional miniature paintings, kota doria saris, blue pottery, enamelware, brassware, woollen carpets and leather footwear (especially embroidered juttis). Rajasthali, Johari Bazaar, MI Road, Nehru Bazaar, Bapu Bazaar and Chaupar Stalls are some of the famous marketplaces in Jaipur. Do remember that most shopping places in Jaipur remain closed on Sundays.
Jaipur is the capital and largest city of the Indian state of Rajasthan in Northern India. It was founded on 18 November 1727 by Maharaja Sawai Jai Singh II, the ruler of Amber, after whom the city is named. The city today has a population of 3.1 million. Jaipur is known as the Pink City of India. You can see why ... the color of the walls in the above picture, for example. Many houses, public buildings and walls are painted soft shades of pink, just like this wall. It is done by mixing a pink pigment while whitewashing the walls.
