Recently I had the pleasure of traveling to several forts and palaces in India. Besides the awesome architectural marvels, these visits were also eye-openers for me in terms of local cultures and customs, as I had the chance to interact with many local visitors too. Another interesting thing for me, was the presence of gentle cows and well, almost gentle bulls, strolling along the streets apparently without a care in the world. In some forts like Jaisalmer, which houses a veritable township within its walls, the cows would be walking around right there, inside the fort. And last but not least, the pigeons. They seem to love to hang around these palaces and forts. They love the little alcoves and arches, and flitter about amongst them. Some forts have even little holes in the walls that one could only call pigeonholes, literally. I wonder if those pigeonholes had actually been built with pigeons in mind? Well, the pigeons certainly...
